Bruno Mary

BRUNO, MRS. MARY T. (LEONARD) AIKEN age 89, of Fesser Avenue, Bristol, died Friday, January 16, 2015 at St. Elizabeth's Manor, Bristol. She was the beloved wife of Joseph F. Bruno and the late O. Fred Aiken. Born in Brighton, MA, she was a daughter of the late Thomas E. and Agnes E. (MacDonald) Leonard of Newtonville, MA. Mary was a graduate of Newton High School, Class of 1943. After graduation she worked for Ginn Publishing Company, the Atheneum Press in Cambridge, MA and the New England Telephone Company, the former State Street office before marrying and moving to Rhode Island in 1947. She lived in Warwick from 1950 before moving to Bristol in 1985. She was employed with US Naval Construction Battalion Center from 1951 before transferring to Internal Revenue Service, Providence District in 1961. Retired as Personnel Technician from the IRS in 1978. After her retirement she attended the Community College of RI and graduated in 1983 with a degree in Fine Arts in Theater. Worked at various volunteer and temporary jobs with the VA Hospital, Meals on Wheels and Kelly Services. She served with Literacy Volunteers of America in East Bay for ten years as a tutor, Newsletter publisher, Program Director, Vice President and President. Was a volunteer tutor with the Bristol Library School Program for third grade at Guiteras School. Mary enjoyed playing golf and for many years was a member of the Valley Country Club in West Warwick. Mary was a communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church where she served with the Rosary and Altar Society as Vice President in 2003-2004. She was a member of the Nocturnal Adoration Society, where she served as Secretary for many years and also was a Religious Education teacher for first grade students for several years at the church. In addition to her husband, she leaves nine nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Donald Leonard, Georgia A. McQueston and Anna Marie Sheehan. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial, Friday, January 23, 2015 at 10:00 AM in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 141 State Street, Bristol. Burial will follow in Juniper Hill Cemetery, Sherry Avenue, Bristol. Visiting hours are respectfully omitted.
