Robert A. Clarke Jr.

Robert A. Clarke Jr. of Randolph passed away January 7, 2015. Son of Robert A. Clarke of Tewksbury and Aloyse Curtin of Somerville, he was born in Wilmington, December 8, 1938, and raised in Charlestown. He proudly served his country as a U.S. Marine and was employed for thirty-five years by the U.S. Postal Service. He was an accomplished runner, after taking up the sport at age forty, with multiple Boston and New York City marathon finishes and competitive races on the New England Masters Circuit. Marathon P.R. of 2:40. He found his true calling as the girls cross country and track coach at Stoughton High School for the last twelve years. He also coached at Notre Dame Academy and Norwell High School. His girls were his everything. He was the adored brother of Carol (Emmett) of East Boston; beloved father of Mary Victoria (deceased), Jennifer and her husband Brian Godzik of Plymouth, Andrew and his wife Julie of Charleston, S.C., and Erin and her husband Timothy Mohr of Brooklyn, N.Y.; proud grandfather of seven. He was formerly married to Margaret M. King of Charlestown. A funeral Mass was held at St. Marys Church in Randolph on Saturday, January 17, at 11:30 a.m. Visiting hours were Friday 5-8 p.m. at the Hurley Funeral Home, 134 So. Main St. (Rte. 28), Randolph. Interment is private. Donations can be made to the Robert A. Clarke Jr. Scholarship Fund, c/o the Randolph Savings Bank, 129 North Main St., Randolph, MA 02368.
