Florence A. Sullivan

Florence Ann Sullivan (93), resident of Lexington for more than 60 years died on December 22nd, 2014 at the Lahey Clinic in Burlington. She was a loving and dedicated mother and grandmother, leaving her son Spencer Sullivan and his wife Joanne of Allendale, NJ, her son Craig Sullivan and his wife Ana of Lexington, and her daughter Moira Hammel and her husband Brian of Valencia CA. She also leaves 8 grandchildren. FloAnn was born in Cambridge Massachusetts to the late Edward Welch and the late Anna (Danaher) Welch. After graduating from Emmanuel College in 1942, she worked for MIT supporting early efforts in sonar and computer development. She later worked as a biometrician for the American Cancer Society. She married William Sullivan in 1951 while he was serving in the United States Army during the Korean War. After the war, they returned to Lexington where their three children were born. FloAnn was active on community activities and served as the chairwoman for the Maria Hasting PTA. Later, she began teaching and spent 30 years as an educator at the LG Hanscom Elementary School. She enjoyed an active life in retirement working as a volunteer at the Symmes & Emerson Hospitals, traveling, and participating in Lexington Senior community events. Throughout her life, she was a strong advocate for education and took particular interest in her grandchildrens academic achievements. A funeral service was held Tuesday Dec. 30 at the Douglass Funeral Home, 51 Worthen Rd., LEXINGTON at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends were invited Visiting hours were Monday from 4pm to 8pm. Donations in her memory may be made to the Lexington Historical Society, P.O. Box 514, Lexington, MA 02420 or to Lahey Hospital and Medical Center, 41 Mall Road, Burlington, MA 01809. Interment Westview Cemetery, Lexington.
